Why Supporting Drive-In Concessions Matters

At a drive-in, the snack bar does more than serve popcorn and soda. Concession sales help cover the many costs of keeping the theatre operating and the screen glowing. Buying even one item can help support the drive-in you are visit.
For many drive-ins, ticket sales alone do not cover the full cost of operating the theatre.The snack bar provides essential income for payroll, electricity, property upkeep, repairs, insurance, and the many other expenses involved in presenting movies under the stars.
Every Purchase Makes a Difference
Supporting the snack bar does not mean that every family must spend a large amount. Budgets are different, and some guests have allergies, medical restrictions, or special diets. If you are able, purchasing even a drink, popcorn, or another suitable item still makes a meaningful contribution.
When a full concession order is not possible, look for an affordable way to participate. Share an order, choose one small item, or purchase a gift card or piece of merchandise when the theatre offers them. What matters is recognizing that every reasonable show of support helps.
Before bringing outside food, check the theatre’s policy. Some drive-ins permit outside food, some require guests to purchase a food permit, and others restrict or prohibit outside food because concession sales are essential to their survival. Respecting each theatre’s rules is another important way to protect the business and the experience.
Although visitors should respect each theatre’s rules, The Drive-In Guys do not support mandatory food permits. We believe they can unfairly punish guests—especially those with allergies, medical restrictions, special diets, or limited budgets—simply for bringing food they need or can afford.
